FIRST TIME MUMS OVER 40 WANTED FOR THE WRIGHT STUFF TV SHOW

I am an Assistant Producer for the channel Five TV programme The Wright Stuff.  We are going to be doing a piece on the show about First Time Mums who are over 40.  The show is discussion based so it would be great if any new mums out there are interested in telling us their stories.  The aim is to look at what life is really like for older mums.  Do you have a tougher time?  Would you recommend waiting to have a child?  Have you experienced any different treatment because of their age?

My contact number is 0207 985 1718 and my email is barbara.ocallaghan@princesstv.com.  If you are interested please contact me asap.

Barbara O'Callaghan, Assistant Producer, The Wright Stuff/ Five.

SELF-EMPLOYED MUMS WANTED FOR MAGAZINE FEATURE

Over 70% of women with children age five or over are actively working; not always happily. Whilst employers are supposed to offer flexible working conditions, this is often impractical, impossible or simply not available. The resulting stress trying to balance family life and earning an income can be enormous. The result? Working mums are becoming their own bosses and are going self-employed.

I am researching a feature about mums who have got fed up working for someone else and have taken the plunge to go it alone.

If you are self employed or run your own business I would love to hear from you. The article is designed to de-mystify the whole process for those mums who love the idea but worry about the practicalities. I would like to include some 'case studies' & quotes from mums who have made a success of going it alone plus some cautionary tales.

If you - or someone you know - fits the bill, please e-mail me back asap and I'll give you more information. Mums do NOT need to be resident in the UK.

HAVE YOU BEEN MADE REDUNDANT?

Glossy weekend supplement is looking for women aged 25-45 who have been made redundant specifically as a result of the current economic climate. We would like to hear from you if your job loss caused financial adversity or other problems - perhaps you’re a single parent, you and your husband had just taken on a bigger mortgage or your redundancy led to depression. Equally, it would be good to get positive stories (your redundancy money helped finance a new venture or dream holiday etc). Please contact helen.gent@tiscali.co.uk by 6th June if you’re interested in this feature.

Mums Wanted for Top UK Glossy Mag Feature

For UK's top weekly women's glossy, I'm urgently looking for a woman, mid-30s to early 40s, who has decided to have an abortion after having had a child or children.

The abortion must be for lifestyle reasons rather than medical. Ideally, she will be married to a husband who fathered her first child or children and the one she is aborting. She does not have to identify herself - the story can be told anonymously. However she must agree to be photographed, albeit in such a way as to disguise her identity. There is payment involved.

CHILDREN OF DIVORCED/SEPARATED PARENTS

A glossy weekend supplement is looking for children, aged six to 16, to talk about what it’s like when their parents divorce and they regularly live between two different homes. It might be that access arrangements mean your child/children stays with their dad at weekends, or a couple of times a week, or during school holidays – or maybe they stay over at their dad's on an ad hoc basis. The feature will involve a short phone interview - kids can remain anonymous and no pictures are required. Questions will be things like: do you miss your friends when you go to your dad’s at weekends, do you like having quality time on your own with one parent etc. If this is of interest, please contact helen.gent@tiscali.co.uk by 14 May 2008.

Do You Have an Exciting or Extraordinary Story to Tell?

If you are an individual with a powerful, dramatic or moving real-life story that you would like to see in a national newspaper or magazine, then I can write and market it at no cost to yourself. The motive behind telling your story is irrelevant. Perhaps you want to be an inspiration to others, or want others to learn from your situation. Perhaps you have overcome a tragedy or illness, or achieved something wonderful against all odds. Maybe you would simply like to expose a rogue in your life, such as a cheating partner, or perhaps you want to whistle blow on a particular organisation or employer who has treated your unfairly. Maybe you would simply like to thank someone for supporting you through traumatic times.

Whatever your story, please feel free to email with some basic details. If your story is pursued, I will send you the copy for approval prior to publication. Having taken part in features myself, I know how frustrating it can be when journalists and editors get their facts wrong, or spell names incorrectly. Because I operate independently, I personally handle your story and operate on a totally ethical basis. I would never submit any story without total approval from the interviewee.

Thank you!

Please email Jan Andersen

This service is FREE of charge to journalists, reporters, TV producers and researchers.  However, since Mothers Over 40 is a non-profit venture and costs me money to build and maintain, any support would be gratefully received. If you feel that you would like to make a donation towards supporting this site and service, please email me.

If you would like to use my comments in a feature and I am not available for interview, please feel free to take what you need from the following article, which was based on questions that I have been asked in the past by radio/tv presenters and journalists:

Midlife Parenting – Q&As

A mention of the Mothers Over 40 website or my books in your article/feature would be much appreciated. Thank you!
